Alison Salmons gained a Bachelor of Music Performance at Auckland University, followed by further postgraduate studies at Victoria University. It was during her degrees that she became very interested in historical performance practice and started studying and performing with various NZ Baroque specialists and ensembles, gaining valuable experience. After graduating she spent several years as an orchestral musician, then became a school music teacher in Australia. Upon returning to New Zealand in 2006, Alison joined NZ Barok as a core player. She balances her Baroque viola performing work with teaching a busy Suzuki violin studio in Auckland.
